Merge multiple bank statements into one CSV
Converting twelve statements into twelve files only does half the job. Here's how to get one.
One file instead of twelve
A batch converter that hands back one file per statement has done the mechanical part of the work and left you the annoying part. Twelve CSVs still have to be opened, stacked and re-sorted before they're useful, and that's exactly where columns drift out of alignment and rows quietly go missing.
What most people want from a year of statements is one spreadsheet with every transaction in it, in the order things actually happened. That's what the merged download gives you: a single CSV containing every row from every statement in the batch, sorted by date, with a Source File column so nothing becomes anonymous along the way.
The balance column is deliberately left out of the merged file. A running balance describes one account's position at one moment, so interleaving balances from several statements gives you a column of numbers that looks meaningful and isn't. Where you need balances, use the per-file download.
At the foot of the merged file you get totals by source statement, totals by category, and a grand total, so the figures can be checked at a glance before the file goes anywhere near an accounting package.
Both outputs are available after every batch conversion. If the job really does call for separate files, whether that's different clients, different entities or different returns, the ZIP download is still there.

Frequently asked questions
How does the merged CSV handle different accounts?
Every row carries a Source File column naming the statement it came from. If the statements have named sub-accounts, an Account column is included too, so rows stay traceable even when several accounts are combined.
What about the running balance column?
The merged CSV leaves the balance column out. A running balance only means something within a single statement for a single account, so interleaving balances from different statements would produce a misleading figure. Per-file downloads keep the balance column intact.
Are the transactions sorted?
Yes, chronologically across all statements in the batch. Upload order doesn't matter.
Can I still get the files separately?
Yes. Both options are there after a batch conversion. Download one merged CSV, or download a ZIP with one CSV per statement. Use whichever suits the job.
Does the merged file include totals?
Yes. The merged CSV ends with totals by source file and totals by category, plus a grand total, so you can sanity-check the figures without building formulas first.
