Free Bank Transaction Spreadsheet Template

Reviewed 12 September 2026

Short answer

Short answer

Use one row per transaction with Date, Description, Debit, Credit, Balance, Category, Account and Source File columns. Keep a separate reconciliation sheet for the statement period, opening balance, total debits, total credits, calculated closing balance and printed closing balance. Download both templates free without entering an email address.

The template is deliberately plain. It gives you clean source data that can feed filters, SUMIFS, PivotTables or your accountant's own workbook.

What belongs in the transaction table

Date, Description and amount direction are the minimum working fields. Balance helps with checking. Category supports analysis. Account and Source File preserve traceability when several statements are combined.

Do not add subtotals, merged cells or blank separator rows inside the transaction table. Put summaries on a separate sheet so Excel can filter, sort and refresh the source rows reliably.
